I thought you're quote was to commemorate his life since it was, at times, his voice singing those lyrics for Floyd.  He died of cancer at age 65.

I read up on it the other day after your post.  He was the stabilizer of the group.  Kind of like George Harrison was with the Beatles.  As a matter of fact, I think that he had been mentioned as such.  All were engineering grads at a local polytechnic institute, so it was not unusual that most of the stage and audio effects were created by them.  They were the fathers of the light show.....Not to highjack my own thread, so.......
